Linn Axis Turntable with Linn Akito Tonearm
The Linn Axis was introduced as a more accessible alternative to the legendary Linn Sondek LP12, bringing much of Linn’s analogue engineering philosophy into a simpler, electronically controlled belt-drive design. Produced from the late 1980s through the 1990s, the Axis became known for its excellent speed stability, musical timing, and strong value in serious vinyl systems.
Unlike the LP12’s suspended subchassis architecture, the Axis uses a rigid plinth design with sophisticated electronic speed control, allowing easy push-button switching between 33⅓ and 45 RPM. This made it one of the more user-friendly audiophile turntables of its era. The deck was often paired with the Linn Akito tonearm, a precision gimbal-bearing arm designed to offer strong cartridge compatibility and accurate tracking.
The combination of Axis + Akito remains popular on the used market because it preserves Linn’s famous sense of pace, rhythm, and timing (PRaT) while being easier to set up and maintain than an LP12.

The Linn Axis with Akito is still admired for its:
- excellent timing and rhythmic drive
- stable pitch accuracy
- natural analogue flow
- strong midrange coherence
- low mechanical noise
Compared to many entry-level turntables, the Axis sounds more composed and musically “locked in,” while the Akito adds significantly better tracking and cartridge extraction than cheaper bundled arms.
It is often seen as one of Linn’s best-value vintage turntables and a strong stepping stone toward the LP12 philosophy.
A classic British belt-drive turntable combining Linn’s celebrated timing precision, electronic speed stability, and the versatile Akito tonearm for highly engaging analogue playback.
