The Marantz AV7005 is a premium 7.2-channel A/V preamplifier/processor designed for serious home theatre systems built around separate power amplification. By removing internal amplifier stages, the AV7005 focuses entirely on signal processing, DAC performance, and analogue output quality, allowing greater flexibility and improved performance when paired with external amplifiers.

Built around Marantz’s proprietary HDAM (Hyper Dynamic Amplifier Module) analogue stages and Current Feedback circuitry, the AV7005 delivers a notably refined and musical presentation compared to many processors of its generation. It was one of Marantz’s most respected home cinema processors during the HDMI 1.4 era.

The AV7005 remains respected because it delivers much of the sonic sophistication of Marantz’s premium AV receivers but with the advantages of a dedicated processor. Its balanced outputs make it especially attractive for pairing with higher-end multi-channel amplifiers, and its analogue stage still holds up remarkably well for music.

Its main limitation today is video: HDMI 1.4 means 1080p and 3D only, with no 4K, HDR, Dolby Atmos, or DTS:X. Many current owners use it as an audio-first processor while routing video directly to the display. Community feedback still consistently praises its musicality and build quality.
